3 Easy Ways to Incorporate Upcycling Into Your Brand
1) Save your own production scraps to use as material.
Saving your own scraps is free and can really help make a positive impact by preventing them from ending up in the landfill.
2) Source deadstock fabric.
Deadstock is fabric that is no longer useful to companies and is sold due to various reasons including overstock, not meeting aesthetic requirements or no longer in season. Using deadstock fabric is an easy way to upcycle since the production process is the same as using new fabric.
3) Use factory seconds.
Factory seconds, also known as factory rejects, or simply seconds, are retail items which, through minor fault or manufacture, are sold to the public for a reduced rate, rather than being discarded. Factory seconds are usually inexpensive to purchase and can be embellished or repurposed using minimal labor.
I go into great detail in Module 2 of my class Upcycle Design Masterclass and I'll also share some of my preferred vendors.
